THE PRII Annual Conference was delivered as a live online broadcast over two half days on November 3 and 4. The theme was ‘Turning Change into New Possibilities’ and its objective was to inform, advise, provoke and challenge the public relations industry.

The conference programme contained 28 top-line speakers from Australia, the USA, the UK and Ireland. The absence of geographical barriers for the virtual event meant that over 100 delegates benefited from international leaders’ perspectives.

Professor Jim Macnamara, Distinguished Professor, School of Communication, University of Technology Sydney, who spoke on the topic of challenging disinformation, deception, and manipulation was the top-rated speaker and the discussion on the future of the media was rated the top panel.

An attendee said, “The online platform was perfect and faultless. Moderators and Q&A/panel discussions were well managed despite the constraints. The real-life experience of networking and reconnecting with members was missed, so here’s hoping it will be in real life next year!”

There were 31 contributors – 90 per cent live – and the conference was one of the top three topics on Twitter. Nearly 70 68 per cent of delegates rated the conference as excellent, 88 per cent found the topics covered essential or very useful while 83 per cent believed the conference excellent or good value for money.
